Sugar prices rising once again

Prices have risen again after falling in the last two weeks of June, particularly due to profit-taking. On 26 June, white sugar was trading at close to 450 $/t (32 €/t) for August delivery, while raw sugar was commanding 16.26 cts/lb (358 $/t) for July delivery dates. White premium is falling, but, at close to 90 $/t, is still attractive to refineries.
On the energy raw materials front, oil and petrol have slipped somewhat, to just under 69 $ a barrel and 50 $/hl respectively (P.5).
US ethanol has fallen to 44 $/hl, pulled down by maize prices (150 $/t) over the last two weeks (P.6).
